Job description | : • Accountable to the MQA Business Unit Head for delivering marine technical support to the MQA function and client. • Ensuring all marine technical support conforms, as a minimum, to the standard operating procedures and risk profile agreed with Client. • Ensuring all marine technical support is aligned with the KPI and SLA criteria specified in the MSP agreement. • Assist in delivering continuous improvement to the MQA function and marine technical support service delivery. MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES • Conduct structural assessments of third-party marine assets for use by client in line with the requirements of MSP / MESQAC. Make recommendations and provide guidance to the MSQ function and client on the outcome of these assessments. • Study design proposals and specifications to establish basic characteristics of craft, such as size, weight, speed, propulsion, displacement, and draft. Evaluate characteristics of equipment or systems. • Evaluate performance of craft during dock and sea trials to determine design changes and conformance with national and international standards. • Create graphical representations of structures or landscapes. • Confer with marine engineering personnel to establish arrangement of boiler room equipment and propulsion machinery, heating and ventilating systems, refrigeration equipment, piping, and other functional equipment. • Confer with technical personnel to prepare designs or operational plans. Lead the design and analysis activities of Maritime Global Services in the fields of structures and/or hydrodynamics and/or stability. • Provide input in the form of numerical calculations (FEA, CFD, NAPA, etc.), and hand calculations according to the requirements of each job. • Lead the development of technical drawings and arrangements and check them as the need may be. • Liaise with clients and/or regulatory bodies (classification societies, flag authorities, etc.) on all related issues according to operational requirements of each job. • Work closely with the rest of the Marine service and MQA team members and provide training and guidance to younger members of the team (including graduates and interns) according to operational requirements. • Maintain an overview of all active projects related to the field of expertise in terms of deadlines, expenditure and invoicing, and operational efficiency / staff utilisation. • Design complete hull and superstructure according to specifications and test data, in conformity with standards of safety, efficiency, and economy. • You may be asked from time to time be asked to undertake other tasks that are considered to be relevant to your position. Qualifications • MEng / MSc in Naval Architecture (or related engineering discipline) • PhD in a field relative the commercial operations. Experience 5+ years of working experience in the marine industry as a naval architect. Knowledge • Deep understanding in the underlying engineering principles in the areas of Structures and/or Hydrodynamics and/or Stability according to the role requirements • Knowledge of risk assessment techniques • Sound understanding of Classification, Flag State, IMO ISM/ISPS, SOLAS & MARPOL requirements. • Thorough Knowledge, skills and experience demonstrate high degree of business integrity in the impact of the industry issues. |
