Job description | : Job Title : Sr. Manager - Legal, India and Bangladesh Department : Legal Location : Mumbai, India Report To : CEO (South Asia) & Regional General Counsel (Asia Pacific) Travel Required : Up to 5% The Sr. Manager Legal has the overall responsibility for all legal affairs, including regulatory and corporate governance for Company’s India and Bangladesh operations and business. He/she will be required to proactively support the businesses by providing timely, practical and cost effective legal services at all levels of the organization. Where necessary, he/she will be required to assist in global projects and such other work that may be required. AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY Compliance and Litigation: To handle and manage compliance related matters. • Compliance training, e.g. anti-trust, anti-bribery, trade sanctions. • Handling and dealing with queries/issues related to compliance. • Manage legal process and litigation matters, working with external Lawyers on cases as • required. To provide guidance to relevant administrative personnel in each local office to ensure financial • exposure to claims is monitored and controlled. Claims: •Monitoring claims status • Providing claims team with direct guidance for processing major claims • Keeping management and Regional General Counsel (Asia Pacific), duly informed of any material • claims which could impact the company’s financial position. General Legal: l• To draft, review all material contracts, negotiate and administer legal and transactiona l• documentations relating to various business activities on a time bound and solution oriented manner. Partner with business and provide risk-minimizing and commercially sensible feedback. • Provide legal advice and support to management and business teams, maintaining effective • relationships with internal stakeholders. Analyze and identify legal risks and implications, protect and enforce Company’s rights and •interests. •Maintain current knowledge of legislations, keep management updated regarding changes, new laws and regulations that may have implications to the Company. A personable and confident disposition, with the ability to add value in what is an entrepreneurial • and proactive environment. Handle GIL Global projects where necessary • Legal training, e.g. contract review, general liability issues QUALIFICATIONS • Degree in Law with additional qualification in risk and compliance will be desired. 12+ years of post-qualification experience in a mid to large size corporate company. • Understanding of logistics industry will be advantageous however not a limiting factor. • Previous experience working in a legal counsel for an international company is preferred. • Extensive knowledge of commercial law, litigation and compliance.
